A couple of years ago, I spent thanksgiving at a friend's house. Everything was great, her mother had worked all day to make the perfect Thanksgiving dinner, turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, homemade biscuits, and all the other classics. We all sat down to eat and some of my friend's siblings were arguing incessantly. The mother who worked so hard, kept telling them to quit it and enjoy dinner that she had worked so hard on. Of course, they didn't and just kept at each other. So finally the mother (who can be very dramatic) stood up and grabbed a pitcher of water on the table and just started pouring it all over the table and the food. As she poured, she announced Dinner was over! Every dish was basically watered down! YUCK! No one made a peep and just politley got up from the table. It was the end of Thanksgiving!

Killah
Ha, that's classic.
My bf's family has a very similar story. When he was a kid, his entire family (aunts, uncles, grandparents and cousins) were all sleeping over at one of their houses on Christmas Eve. The parents stayed up very late wrapping presents and imbibing in a little (too much?) Christmas Cheer. Well, the boys decided to wake up extra-early (just after the parents went to bed) and proceeded to make a lot of noise and wake everyone up. My bf's mom gets up, stomps downstairs, and yells:
CHRISTMAS IS CANCELLED!!
It's a classic story to this day in their family, and I don't think a year goes by that someone doesn't jokingly say it when things get a little rowdy.
1dexaholic, thats awesome. XD
Personally I would have tipped the water onto the arguing teens, but you know, I don't like to see good food go to waste.
2TOTALLY agree, Autumns_!!!! shut THEM up and let everyone else enjoy
3That sounds awful! My family is usually painfully quiet at Thanksgiving.
4That reminds me of my HS friend's mother. She was pretty dramatic at times but this one takes the cake. She was making cookies when for some reason the family started arguing and she got upset. She poured a bottle of windex into the dough and made the cookies (screaming the whole time). Thankfully when they were done she threw them out and stormed out of the house. After a few minutes she came back in eerily calm and made a fresh batch. Creepy!
5Man, if my bf's mom did that every time people started arguing at the dinner table, there would be no Thanksgiving. Period. Or Hanukkah. Or Passover. Or any meal!
6WOW...thank god I never had to put up with those kinds of antics. I'd never go back to any functions if that happened in my/my boyfriend's/friend's family!!!
7I'm concerned at the fact that she ruined a perfectly good meal. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have a nice Thanksgiving meal. She should have at least just sent the kids to their room or something.
8This resonates with my family.
Apparently, the arguing has already started in my family, as they're hashing-out what's going to be on the menu.
Of course, during the get-together, there will be the requisite stormy arguments between certain family members, as they thrive from the drama, and deep down inside, love the fact that there are spectators.
9I agree with Autumns_Eleg as well. Don't waste the food, throw water on the people!
That reminds me of one time my mom and I got into a fight. She grabbed my sandwich I was eating, started ripping it apart and threw the pieces at me. I took hers and did the same. LOL
After, she told me to go live with my dad. Hahaha An empty threat but I quieted down and ate the other half of my sandwich.
10oh glowingmoon, you said it. So many people like this LOVE the drama even though they insist that they hate it. and they love having an audience. It's so sad.
11LOL omgosh zivanod I love that you did the same thing to her sandwich I would have never had the guts to do that to one of my parents lol.
12psychobabble- hahaha I'm laughing! that is so weird!
13zivanod- I'm laughing at yours too hahaha
Wow, Zivanod. I cannot imagine my mom ever doing something like that to me. It's a comical story but, gosh, a bit childish from her. These stories are sad but hilarious, though.
